about
With his newly-released track, “Newspaper Man”, Scot Sier has introduced the 1st single from his ambitious, socially-conscious new concept LP, “Space and Other Things”. The album is a plea for global change, and “Newspaper Man” aligns nicely with this mission, both thematically and lyrically. The song was inspired by a real person and actual events. Sier had met a lifetime-loyal, yet elderly man selling papers on a city corner who lost his job to a ruthless, capital-maximizing company that sold the paper and no longer needed his service.
“The papers cutting corners
They say you have to go
Union men aren’t wanted
They say your getting old
Working rain or sunshine
Keeping people informed”
Writing the song, Sier quickly found it morphing into a protest song, a pro-union salvo for the unsung heroes who are being worked to the bone by corporations that care only about the bottom line. A driving, intense straight-up rock n’ roll track, “Newspaper Man’s” fiery opening bass track kicks things off with a bang, performed by bassist Chris Chaney, who previously played bass in the HNC band with Foo Fighters’ recently-deceased Taylor Hawkins and Dave Navarro on guitar), accompanied by a driving rhythm section featuring Sier on guitar, Luke Adams on drums and Max Hart on keys.
“Space and Other Things” is a dizzying and impactful album that features a super-group lineup of Los Angeles and world musicians. From billionaires colonizing Mars to the extinction of the human race, the eight prescient songs target a specific cultural or political topic, telling their story with futurist genre-bending experimentations and musicianship.

lyrics
Newspaper Man
Newspaper man on the corner
I still don’t know your name
I see your face on the front page
You look the same
Eight quarters and a dollar
Get your news hot off the press
Delivered by a man with fifty years experience
I can tell you anything about the news you need to know
Current events, politics, and those who turned their toes
The papers cutting corners
They say you have to go
Union men aren’t wanted
They say your getting old
Working rain or sunshine
Keeping people informed
Never a dull moment
For the weary and bored
Eight quarters and a dollar
Get your news hot off the press
Delivered by a man with fifty years experience
I can tell you anything about the news you need to know
Current events, politics, and those who turned their toes
Newspaper man
Sundays are the best
Nickels, dimes, pennies, quarters
Put you to the test
Newspaper man
Save some ink for me
I’ll be true and pay your dues
A union man I see
Newspaper man on the corner
I still don’t know your name
I see your face on the front page
You’ve lost your way
